Jim asked Sandy about the Jackie O's beer label he saw on the back of a door at the Tap Room location in Athens, Ohio
Sandy: There is no real story behind this one. Brad [former Jackie O's head brewer] sent me an email one day with the idea for the label already worked out (shark/alligator/man). He thought my comics background would make me a good choice for the art. For some reason, I never asked him why, all he wanted from me was the drawing of the creature: no lettering, no coloring. The design and the computer coloring were handled by Kevin Morgan. That thing in "his" hand is supposed to be a knife. (I guessed it was an ice pick — Jim) January 10, 2020 update: Sandy: Here's the b+w art for that beer label.

Jim asked Sandy about the above drawing
Sandy: A fellow by the name of Rod Nippert gave me a call one day way back when, wanting me to come up with something to use for a new venture he was embarking on: raspberry farming. Seemed like my big chance—an opportunity to break into into the lucrative field of southeastern Ohio produce art. Well, not really. Rod didn't have much money to pay for the work, but for a month or two I was eating more red raspberries than you could imagine. He used the logo on his business cards and eventual had it blown up and put on the side of his pickup. |
